The Maryland General Assembly is considering legislation that would add significant mandates to small employers. #MattTheLawyer focuses on two bills in this update:
- SB 211 and HB 375 would create the Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program which would include mandates on small business owners to provide certain benefits to employees who opt into the program.
- HB 581 would significantly affect small business owners — the immediate and most expensive would be that all businesses with essential workers (as defined in the bill) would be $3 per hour hazard pay which, if enacted in its current form, would be back dated to the start of the present emergency.
