Harassment, Discrimination and Retaliation in the Workplace

Harassment, Discrimination and Retaliation in the Workplace

I take a pretty harsh stance (and recommend employers do the same) on the matter of retaliation against employees who report discrimination or harassment.

The short answer is that an employer CANNOT allow a culture of hiding to take root. Retaliation is, in my opinion, worse than discrimination itself. Employees cannot be afraid to report harassment or discrimination and if an employee knows or suspects they will be retaliated against, then nothing the employer does to mitigate discrimination or to encourage reporting is going to matter. The culture is damaged.
